Provided facilities beyond requested: Tamil Nadu minister on air show preparations

After three spectators at an air show died in Chennai and over 200 were injured during the event, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian claimed that the state government has provided facilities beyond what was requested by the Indian Air Force.
A record 16 lakh people flocked to Marina Beach on Sunday to witness the fascinating air show on the 92nd anniversary of Indian Air Force Day, but many had to stare down the barrel due to chaos. At least three spectators died while 230 others were hospitalised due to dehydration.
The health minister outlined the facilities provided for the event, stating that the state government went beyond what was requested by the IAF.
According to Subramanian, two health teams with doctors and nurses were deployed, along with 40 ambulances at the venue. He also said paramedical teams and drinking water were arranged at Marina Beach. The Indian Army also formed medical teams.
Chennai Police said in an October 4 statement that 6,500 officers and 1,500 home guards were posted for crowd control during the event.
Authorities continue to face criticism for the lack of proper crowd management and safety measures during the air show.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai condemned the ruling DMK government and called for Chief Minister MK Stalin to be held accountable for what he described as “the misery of hundreds of families” affected by the tragedy.
